When middle-aged couple George and Martha return home drunk and quarrelsome from a college faculty party at two a.m., with the new young, handsome professor Nick and his mousy wife Honey close on their heels for a nightcap, a long night of malicious games, insults, humiliations, betrayals, painful confrontations and savage witticisms ensues.
